Brody guide and counters (2.2.16a): gold lane build, mark combo and matchups
Role and playstyle
Brody is a gold lane marksman who is slow but hits very hard with each shot. His basic attacks stack Abyss Marks on the target; at four marks he gains a big movement speed boost against that target, and his ultimate deals extra damage to every marked enemy. He cannot crit, so his build is about raw damage and penetration. On mlbbhub he is B tier with a 50.7% win rate, a 1.1% pick rate and a 2.5% ban rate: not dominant, but steady and almost never banned.
Recommended build and emblem
- Items: Swift Boots, Endless Battle, Blade of Despair, Malefic Roar, Brute Force Breastplate, Immortality.
- Flex swaps: Wind of Nature over Brute Force Breastplate against two or more physical divers; Sea Halberd against a healer or shield support; Rose Gold Meteor over Immortality against a burst mage.
- Emblem: Assassin set with Rupture, Master Assassin and Killing Spree.
- Battle spell: Flicker. Purify is also used against very hard crowd control.
Combo and key tips
- Build marks with Skill 1 (Abyss Impact) and a basic attack, then land the heavy damage with the ultimate (Torn-Apart Memory) and a basic attack, and chase a fleeing target with Skill 2 (Corrosive Strike) and a basic attack.
- The ultimate hits every marked enemy in range, not only your current target, so try to mark several enemies in team fights.
- Abyss Impact's damage scales with the marks on the target, so it hits much harder on a fully marked enemy.
- Corrosive Strike briefly stuns the target and then gives a second dash. Save it to escape, because Brody's movement speed is low.
What to pick against Brody
- In mlbbhub's statistics the best picks against him are Masha (+2.1 points), Barats (+2.0), Khufra (+1.9), Saber (+1.9) and Kadita (+1.6). Our engine also highlights assassins like Saber who can jump in and delete him in one combo.
- The logic: Brody is slow and has limited escapes. Assassins who dive him and tanks who lock him down take him out of the fight.
- Items: Immortality or Blade Armor against his burst, Antique Cuirass or Wind of Nature against his physical damage.
Who Brody is good against
According to mlbbhub he has the edge against Karina (+4.3), Belerick (+3.2), Irithel (+2.8) and Joy (+2.2). Heroes who have to stay in close range for long can't escape his damage as the marks build up.
What changed recently
Brody was not touched in 2.2.16 or 2.2.16a. His last big adjustment came in 2.1.67: Abyss Impact's damage was tied to the number of marks, the missing-HP part of his ultimate rose to 10% at max rank, and in return his base HP and movement speed were lowered.
